We are excited to announce that the 360Giving community has reached another milestone, sharing open grants data representing over £300 billion worth of funding.

Following the latest publication of grants data by 18 UK government departments, we’re another step closer to our vision of grantmaking that is more informed, effective and strategic – with grants data worth over £300 billion now shared using the 360Giving Data Standard. This collective achievement was made possible by grantmakers across funding sectors helping to ensure more money goes where it’s needed most by publishing their grants data.

Seeing the grantmaking picture

Every grant shared using the 360Giving Data Standard contributes to a fuller picture of grantmaking in the UK, telling us more about how grantmakers are supporting communities and good causes across the country. The £300 billion worth of grants published represent a more comprehensive view than ever before, made up of grants from hundreds of funders ranging from large national grantmakers to local community foundations.

A wider grantmaking picture tells us more about where each grantmaker – and each grant they make – fits in, so that we can understand their collective impact. People across civil society use this knowledge to learn more from others, find new opportunities to collaborate, and see where support is most needed, enhancing their impact further.

Our Progress

360Giving launched in 2015 to make this shared understanding possible, developing the 360Giving Data Standard as a consistent format for sharing grants data. Since then, more and more funders have recognised the power of open grants data, joining a community committed to using it to make grantmaking in the UK more informed, effective and strategic.

In recent years momentum has only grown, and it was only in 2021 that we celebrated reaching £100 billion worth of grants published, a number we have now tripled. In October 2024 we also marked more than 300 funders who have shared grants data in the 360Giving Data Standard. As our community grows, we fill gaps in the data and better understand of the context in which they work.

Going further

Now that there’s more data available from more grantmakers than ever, it has even greater potential to transform grantmaking – through exploring trends, finding opportunities to collaborate, and understanding where resources are most needed. Sharing grants data is just the start – we have to use it to unleash its impact.

We’d like to thank all the funders who have shared their data and made this achievement possible, as well as all of our partners and everyone who has used or explored the data in our tools.

If you’re a grantmaker who is interested in joining us by publishing your data, check out our resources or register for an ‘Introduction to Publishing’ workshop to get started.
