We’re working to shift the norm from funders sharing their grants data to using it, creating a permanent transformation in data culture and practice that brings us closer to our vision of grantmaking being more informed, effective, and strategic.
Our 2022-27 strategy has four goals:
- Increase relevant data available for informed decision-making
- Improve the quality and depth of data for increased usefulness
- Enhance data use for greater effectiveness
- Lead and influence practice for impact
A key element of informed decision-making is having data on the grantmaking picture. In order to paint this picture, we need to increase the amount of data available – including supporting key funders to publish their data to fill in gaps in our understanding. We also need to improve the quality, timeliness, and depth of the data, including encouraging publishers to use more categories so the data can be better understood. We need to make the data easier to access and use, improve people’s skills and confidence to use data effectively, and inspire people with what can be done. Finally, we need to permanently transform how data is seen, used, and positioned within organisations, and advocate for policies that support an environment of data-sharing across the voluntary and funding sectors.
