How our analysis can support your decision-making
We support funders and infrastructure organisations to gain valuable insights into grantmaking by conducting tailored research and analysis, from in-depth sub-sector reviews to funder-specific portfolio audits. Our reports include data visualisations, grantee profile summaries, and comparative analysis, to ensure the implications of the research can be used to inform strategy and promote data-informed decision-making.
In practice examples
Research on a sub-sector
The Access to Justice Foundation commissioned 360Giving to undertake an analysis of funding for the specialist legal advice sector. We worked with the Foundation and its stakeholders to develop a definition and segmentation to identify which organisations to include in the analysis. We worked iteratively to define research questions and pinpoint where to focus. The report publication was followed by a series of roundtable discussions so that readers could engage with the issues raised. To support future research on this sector we published the data on the cohort of organisations included in the analysis, so it can be repeated to offer a longitudinal view.
The Specialist Legal Advice Providers Funding report is available on 360Insights.
Analysis for a funder
A funder commissioned 360Giving to undertake analysis to inform their strategy development. The report included:
- Analysis of their grantmaking trends over time – number, amount, and duration – including by different programmes.
- A profile of grantees, including enhanced data from regulators to look at the recipient size, type, geographical scope, objects, income sources, and trends in turnover over a five year period.
- A profile of all the organisations in the sector that they primarily fund, and what proportion of organisations they have funded in different segments.
- Analysis of other funders who have funded their grantees.
- Comparison to a single other funder where there are common aims – charities which are funded by both organisations, by the commissioner only, and by the other funder only.
The report included charts and visualisations for the funder to include in Board reports. We also provided the full data used to the funder, so they could use it for further analysis as their strategy development approach progressed.
